Hello again,
It was a rough day today, I exerted a lot of energy on that damn wheelchair race. I was crowned the new champion of the rehabilitation center. Some of the residents were complaining that I had an advantage being a police officer and all. They did not think that it was fair that I got to carry some of my "gear" on my new wheelchair. I included a picture of my new ride below. Nothing else to report. I hope everyone has an excellent weekend.

Hello, I have not written a lot because there is not a whole lot going on at the "old folks home". Bingo today was awesome, I swiped an old lady's card when she was'nt looking and won the game. But seriously not a whole lot is new. I went to my orthopedic surgeon a few days ago; he said that the bones look good,and he wants me to continue resting my right leg and hip. He wants me to stay at rehab for approximately six more weeks, bet I'm out of here before that. I hope to leave sooner, when I become more self-sufficient. Time to go I have to get my sleep for the big wheel chair race tomorrow. Thanks again for all of you help and support.

Joe has not had internet access at the rehabilitation facility since his last post. So, he asked me to write a quick post for him. He says that he is doing well, and he can't wait to get out of that place. He really appreciates and is so thankful for everyone's support. Joe also said the he welcomes visitors.
On another note, I just wanted to mention that Joe has been reading all of the comments and posts on this blog. As we all expected, he was quite overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and was so touched by all of the words of hope, prayers and unbelievably kind gestures. It was an emotional experience for him just looking back and seeing how people helped his family while he was "sleeping". It was and still is pretty amazing to see so much goodness and love, especially at a time where we see so much illness, violence, anger and sadness on the news and in real life every day.
As Joe was thanking Steve and I for our support, all I could think of is that we didn't do anything for him that he would not have done for us. Joe, you are a special person, and it's obvious that all of your friends and family know that. We all know that Joe would have gone above and beyond if the shoe were on the other foot. He has always gone out of his way to help others, which is one reason why none of us gave it a second thought.
Joe, what you don't know is that through this whole experience, you have helped us too! You have been an inspiration to ALL of us. Your continued recovery has given us hope. You have given others who have family or friends, who are recovering from illnesses or injuries or are recovering themselves, hope that they CAN pull through and be a survivor, just like you. We all know that you have a long road ahead of you, but your determination is inspiring. I know that I am speaking for everyone when I thank you for working so hard to recover and continuing to be strong through this whole experience. Keep up the great work!

Hello, I am sitting here listening to country music wishing I had a cold beer. I guess it is good to dream. Nothing much has changed, my therapy is going well. They have me standing between parallel bars and transferring from my wheel chair to another chair. I am hoping to get a day pass for the Superbowl. I once again wanted to thank everyone for their support. It is amazing how many people have helped me and my family through these rough times. I would like to especially thank EPD, EFD, and all the people that keep posting comments on this web site. It is great to hear from friends that I have not talked to in years. Please keep the posts coming.

Hello everyone, I am bored off my ###. I have been in this lovely place for three weeks. The food is horrendous consisting of mystery meat. I have therapy twice a day. In the morning they are teaching me to get out of bed and into the wheelchair. The afternoon therapy consists of them stretching my knees and ankles. I stood up on my left leg in between parallel bars for the first time this week. It will still be a couple of months until I can bear weight on my right leg. Once again I appreciate all the support, andI am always up for visitors. I hope there are enough sentences in this post for you Kubz.

OK, ok...I know that Joe just wrote his own post, BUT he neglected to mention that today is his birthday, and personally, I thought it was a pretty fun day! Joe was taken down for some "bogus" rehab today so that his family could surprise him in the dining room at the Rehabilitation Facility. When Joe was brought back upstairs, the nurse told him that it was time for him to start eating in the dining room. Well, Joe wasn't all that pleased with the idea of eating in the dining room considering he would be the youngest one in there by close to 50 years! Anyhow, once the nurse wheeled Joe into the dining room, his whole family was there to surprise him. Joe suspected something, but just didn't know where it would take place. So, it was definitely a pleasant surprise. Joe was able to enjoy cake, ice cream and open presents with Jake and Katie and the rest of the family.
Joe, I hope you enjoyed your day! I know it's no fun in the Rehab Center, but hopefully all of your visitors will help make the time go quickly! And don't worry, when you are ready we'll throw you a big party...and will include all 900 of your Facebook friends so you can buy them ALL a beer! Happy Birthday Joe!!!
Hello everyone, it is my first time typing on this TypePad/Facebook thing. I am feeling a lot better and want to thank everyone for their support. It is great to hear from people that I have not seen in quite a few years. My family and I are very lucky to have the support of everyone. I am feeling a lot better and have begun the fun task of rehab. Thank you to new friends and old friends for all you have done over the past few months. As I said I am feeling a whole lot better and up for visitors. I know that thank you is not enough for all that everyone has done, but that is all I can offer until I am able to meet you and buy you a beer. Thanks again for everything.

After suffering from abdominal pain and going through tests today, Joe is now back at the Rehabilitation Facility. The doctor said that he had a hematoma, which is not uncommon given the type of surgeries he had. As we all know, and a few of you have stated, there will be bumps in the road, but we know Joe will get through this! Hang in there Joe, and take it easy!
